2K Games has welcomed a seasoned producer from the creators of Apex Legends to oversee the studio crew at their internal studio, which is currently developing the forthcoming over-the-shoulder action-packed title known as this innovative game.
Leadership Change Follows Mixed Feedback
Brinkman steps into the role of studio head at 31st Union following the departure of previous head the ex-Sledgehammer Games executive, who was reportedly let go due to Project Ethos' disappointing initial reveal last autumn.
On Wednesday, the company's top executive David Ismailer notified team members about this decision through an official communication, which emphasized that playtesting had shown the necessity for a more defined game identity.
Ismailer expressed that the team is now refining the project with a revised focus, aiming to address player expectations.
A Pattern of Strategic Acquisitions
This announcement follows a comparable action taken by 2K Games in the summer, when they recruited an industry veteran from the Diablo team to contribute to the beloved franchise development group.
Below is the complete content from the president's communication:
Hello Everyone—
I know you all just finished your meeting - I trust you’re as thrilled as I am with the recent updates. Previously I sent you all a message, I mentioned the following: “I believe in this team. You all are some of the most driven and creative designers we have had the pleasure to work with - and we’re looking forward for that collaboration to persist.”
With your dedication and adaptability, especially over the past twelve months, you consistently demonstrate that.
The community feedback from last fall’s Project ETHOS playtest was informative. It affirmed the potential of a roguelike shooter but told us we still had work to do. It highlighted the need for a more distinct identity.
It has been motivating to see how far you’ve come. You took the input to mind and overhauled Project ETHOS with a revitalized goal - one that’s poised to fulfill its potential to our fans.
Our confidence in Project ETHOS increases every day. To further the outstanding advancement you’ve made, I’m excited to introduce Ben Brinkman as the new Lead of the team. After several months of conversations, Ben starts with us on the specified date.
His leadership and background in the competitive gaming field is extensive, having spent the past decade and a half producing and leading some of the most recognizable titles in the industry, such as the acclaimed shooter, and more recently, Apex Legends.
Please join me in welcoming Ben next week. We are all eager to persist seeing the progress of Project ETHOS in the time to ahead.
David

"Take on the rivals with unique powers, stakes, and challenges that shift every round. Do you leave securely with your hard-earned loot? Alternatively go big, gamble everything, and trust your squad can achieve the highest spot? The decision is in your hands."
Project Ethos does not have an announced debut schedule or consoles, but enthusiasts can look forward to additional details as creation continues.
