World Series Game 7 Attracts 51 Million Viewers In the United States, Canada and Japan Regions.

The exciting extra-inning clash that saw the Los Angeles Dodgers beat the Toronto Blue Jays by one run averaged a combined over 50 million spectators in the US, Canadian, and Japanese territories. Major League Baseball stated this marks the highest-rated World Series finale after the 1991 edition showdown between the Twins and Atlanta Braves.

Broadcast Viewership Breakdown

Last Saturday’s epic contest averaged 27.33M audience members on Fox networks, its Spanish-language channel and their digital services. Per Nielsen, it was the second most-watched program of the week.

It additionally stands as the most-watched Fall Classic game since the 2017 Game 7 between the Los Angeles Dodgers and Astros, which averaged 29.07 million. This represents a 16% increase compared to the previous finale between the Washington Nationals and Houston Astros, which attracted 23.19 million.

In the weekly rankings, Game 6 placed 4th, the fourth game was 7th, Game 5 came in eighth, and Game 3 finished in 13th place.

Global Viewership Figures

In the Canadian market, the climactic game averaged 11.6 million watchers on Sportsnet and the French TVA Sports channel. This was the most-watched English-language broadcast in the country after the 2010 edition Vancouver Winter Olympics.

In Japan, where the deciding game began at 9 p.m. in the local time zone, it drew 12 million. This followed last Friday’s Game 6 – where Fall Classic MVP Yoshinobu Yamamoto gave up one run in six frames – recorded over 13 million viewers, making it the highest-rated World Series game on a single network in the country.

Series Totals and Patterns

The full seven-match series drew over 15.7 million viewers on Fox, a 2% increase from last year’s Dodgers-Yankees matchup. This represents the first time after 2015 and 2016 that the World Series has recorded audience increases for two straight seasons.

Including the Game 1 telecast on Univision, the total American viewership was 16.1 million. The total Fall Classic viewership in the Japanese market was 9.7 million and 8.1 million in the Canadian market.

The complete playoffs on Fox and its sister channels recorded over 8 million viewers, an eight percent increase compared to last year and the network’s best playoff performance since the 2017 season.
